Strawberries

Late June/early July to August

Strawberries: the fresher the better. So come and pick your own. The popularity of Charleton has been built around the quality of our strawberries. Much care and attention goes into ensuring you get only the best when you pay us a visit. Pick them, buy them in the shop, or eat them in our famous Charleton tarts!

Raspberries

Late July to September

You just couldnโ€™t fail to grow raspberries here in Angus. They are so delicious and are ready for picking across the summer and well into autumn. We grow a few different varieties including golden ones. Our raspberries often feature in our Cafe, Restaurant and take-away desserts and can be bought in the shop fresh, frozen or in jam.

Pumpkins.

October

Popular at Halloween and ready for harvest throughout October, our mixed range of pumpkins is a very popular part of our Autumn festivities. This year we have added some knobbly, warty varieties too. Come and pick yoursโ€ฆ.

Peas

June/July

Peas prefer it cool and that suits early springtime here in Montrose. With a wee bit of tender loving care to avoid the coldest of snaps, Charleton peas are an early pick-your-own attraction. A tasty treat fresh in the field or Farmshop towards the end of June.

Asp 3.jpg

Asparagus

April and May

We love Asparagus at Charleton. We love the familiar green varieties and we love the less common (but highly prized) white stems too. We harvest in Spring and Summer so look out for our stems for sale in the Farmshop and on your restaurant plate. AVAILABLE IN SHOP NOW (while daily stocks last)

Apples-0_1512791c.jpg

Apples

September

Look at these lovely Charleton apples- ready for picking in September. We believe in producing the good old native Sottish varieties. Look out for apples in the Farmshop.

pears 2.jpg

Pears

September

Our orchard is home to traditional Scottish autumn favourites and wouldnโ€™t be complete without some lovely pears. Pear growing used to be a widespread delight across the nation. Help keep the tradition alive by picking or buying ours when the time comes.

brambles-1.jpg

Brambles

September and October

Bramble picking has always been an annual hobby in my family its something Iโ€™ve passed on to my own children. While thereโ€™s still some light in the sky we find those roadside verges and field boundaries and get busy! Now, of course, I can pick them here then pop down to the shop and restaurant for a nice bite to eat and some extra goodiesโ€ฆwhy not do the same?

cherries 2.jpg

Cherries

July/August

Thereโ€™s a strong movement to see more cherries produced here in the North and its not hard to see why. Those lovely blossoms give way to some tasty dangling treats that are always fun to eat. Join us when the time comes and fill a punnet or two to brighten your day.

blueberries.jpg

Blueberries

August/September

Closely related to bilberries and blaeberries, these lovely soft delicate treats have become increasingly popular in the UK as part of a fresh-healthy diet. You wonโ€™t get any fresher than picking them up at Charleton when the season comes.

redcurrants.jpg

Redcurrants

July and August

Another native fruit that sometimes gets overlooked in the modern world of supermarket shopping. They have a high vitamin C content, go well with both other berries and fruits, and with meats such as goose, venison and lamb (particularly in redcurrant jelly). They can also be frosted with egg white and caster sugar and used as a decoration for puddings or cocktails.

Plums

July - September

I love a good fresh British plum and am really frustrated by those cheap, hard, never-to-ripen impostors that the supermarkets so often attempt to entice us with in a bid to cheat the seasons. Be patient, wait for the right timeโ€ฆโ€ฆand then head on down to Charleton and grab yours for a fresh, local and seasonal delight.

Tays.jpg

Tayberries

July & August

Tayberries were first patented in 1979 and, as the name suggests, are perfect for growing in the Angus climate. They have a sharp-sweet quality and are great for pick your own or for buying fresh or frozen in the Farmshop. Our Tayberry jam is also very popular.

Christmas Trees

December

We grow and harvest our own Nordman Fir trees in December. You can come and pick them up soon after cutting so your chosen tree will stay fresh and needleful throughout the festive period.

Blackcurrants

Late June/July

Weโ€™ve recently planted some blackcurrant bushes which should bear good fruit for picking in 2023.

Potatoes

We have a few different varieties that we grow for sale in our Farmshop. Look out for our lovely, early Charlottes and then later, our characterful Pink Fir Apples.

Herbs and Salad Veg

Spring - late Autumn

Often, but not always undercover, we grow a variety of salad vegetables and herbs for you to pick up in our Farmshop. The range gradually changes as the seasons progress, so keep a look out for fresh and tasty ingredients.

Plants and flowers

March to October

Look out for PYO sunflowers this year at Charleton to supplement the early summer bedding plants we sell through our farm shop.
